When many people hear rum, they are referring to white rum, whether they realize it or not. It was created in the Caribbean, which is where most of the world's rum is still being made. The liquor has been mixed with almost everything under the sun to create many unique recipes known all over the world. It is a liquor that can alter many ingredients to something very unique and very tropical all at the same time.

What White Rum Is

White rum is a distilled liquor made from sugarcane and sugarcane byproducts including molasses. White rum is the clear rum that is used in many cocktails. The other blend of rum is the dark or golden rum which will be enjoyed by itself.

 

Whether you are in the Caribbean, North Dakota or clear across the globe, rum has become a very popular beverage because of how it enhances the flavors of everything it is mixed with. Because of its base being made of sugarcane, it will have a slight sweetness and so it is often paired with fruit juices and purees.

You will find many different companies that manufacture different rum brands. These will range from the common ones to various Caribbean brands. Just like many other liquors, many distilleries have begun adding flavors to the rum, as well. These range from flavors like coconut and raspberry to more tropical such as mango and key lime. Adding these flavors into traditional drinks will add an extra boost in taste and transform the drinks to a higher level.

Cocktails You Can Make with White Rum

There are thousands of cocktails that you can make with white rum. Some of the more common ones are:

• Daiquiris
• Mojitos
• Shots

A daiquiri is made with a fruit puree, rum, crushed ice and a dash of sugar. The fruit puree can be virtually anything from strawberries and bananas to mangos or passion fruit. All of the ingredients will go into a blender and be served very similar to a smoothie.

A mojito is made with a glass filled with mint leaves that are muddled with sugar. You will then add white rum, lime juice and carbonated water. This is a very refreshing drink that was created in Cuba and is now served throughout the world.

 

You will find many different recipes for shots because the sweetness pairs so well with fruit juices. It is for this reason that it is very common to see fruity shots with rum as the key ingredient. There are also high alcohol content rums, such as Bacardi 151 that are lit on fire and dropped into various beers for additional drink choices.

 

White rum has been around for centuries and has become a very versatile ingredient in bars everywhere. If a restaurant has a full bar, rum will be one of the bottles you will see. Some bars will even feature multiple grades of rum to be part of their well, call and super call liquors as a way for guests to upgrade to better tasting rum.
