Sweet & Sour Mix
There are many different mixes for cocktail drinks but one of the most popular by far is the sweet and sour mix. Many bartenders use this type of mix just because of the volume of drinks they serve in a day. It’s a shame not to use the fresh ingredients because you can actually create it yourself.
Combining fresh lemon juice with a syrup mixture any one can make their own at home! The syrup is made from adding a cup of water with a cup of sugar to a small sauce type pan. Bring the water to a boil and constantly stirring while on the stove. Let the mixture boil for two minutes. Remove from the heat and let set at room temperature in a sealed container. Adding lemon or even lime juice will make this sweet and sour mix one that is much less costly than buying it already mixed.
You can purchase the mixes most of the time in the grocery isle with either the wines or the sodas. Some of the most popular drinks are a Whiskey Sour, an Old Fashioned, and Margaritas, just to name a few. Once the mix has been combined with the alcohol of choice, it will produce a white-pearly froth on top of the drink. Some even like to mix an egg white with the sweet and sour mix and the alcohol to add more froth and give the drink added texture. If you add the egg white to the Whiskey Sour and mix well and serve over ice the name of the drink changes to a Boston Sour.
The most popular of the mix drinks using the sweet and sour mixes surprisingly is called an Appletini. This drink contains sweet and sour mix with apple flavored vodka.
