7-Up is one of the many branded soft drinks, owned by PepsiCo, which people usually have because it does not contain any caffeine and it has a lemon-lime taste that everybody loves. Teenagers or little adults enjoy drinking 7-Up mainly because of its refreshing taste and cooling effects especially when consumed cold and with lots of ice. It was in 1929 when Charles Leiper Grigg introduced this famous drink. This Lemon-Lime soft drink is originally called "Bib-Label Lithiated Lemon-Lime Soda” that contains Lithium Nitrate. One of the original key ingredients of 7-Up is the Lithium Citrate which is used as a mood stabilizer in psychiatric treatments.
This drink was also a patented medicine marketed as a cure for hangover. In 1950, Lithium Citrate was removed and the product’s name was changed to “7-Up”. In 2006, it was re-formulated in the US so that it could be marketed as “100% Natural”. As the brand starts expanding, major competitors began formulating their own brand such as the Coca-Cola Company and its product “Sprite”, which was introduce in 1961. In 1980’s, Coke forced all its major bottlers including Sprite to seriously challenge 7-Up’s position and to decline 7-Up’s distribution in deference to Sprite.
7-Up contest’s Coke Company actions in court as “anti-competitive” but lost the case. 7-Up is known worldwide for its being 100% Natural Flavors and stripped off of artificial flavorings and preservatives. It has lots of cool flavors that people will enjoy. Some of these tastes are Cherry, Pomegranate, Raspberry, Orange and varieties of 7-Up’s like 7-Up Ice Cola, 7-Up Free,7-Up Gold and 7-Up Plus. This beverage is not just something you would enjoy during hot sunny days. It can also be used in marinating and making sauces like what some famous chef said.
