Orangina - Drink Secrets

Orangina

Orangina: The Perfect Blend Of Citrus

Orangina is a citrus carbonated beverage which is produced from orange, mandarin, lemon and grapefruit juices. The original origin of the drink was in France at a trade fair, but then began being marketed in Algeria by Leon Beton, a French Algerian. It was purchased and now is produced by Suntory as of 2009 worldwide, however, it has been manufactured and owned in the United States and Canada by the Dr. Pepper Snapple Group since 2006.

Originally concocted by a Spanish inventor, chemist by the name of Trigo from Valencia in 1933, Orangina was originally called "TriNaranjus" on the Spanish market., until 1962 when it was purchased and moved production to France. Not only famous for its delightful taste, the design on the bottle has set it apart from other like juices.

Orangina comes in an 8 oz bottle which is shaped like a pear that also has a texture that resembles the outer skin of an orange, or other citrus fruit peel. It is a quick, quirky marketing ploy that draws the consumer to want to try it. There are many different varieties that include those made from blood oranges and also others that contain other ingredients such as caffeine and guarana.

Orangina makes the perfect addition to a mixed drink. Supplying just the right blend of citrus flavors, it has really brought out the unique in mixed cocktails. It is quickly becoming a staple behind any stocked bar and just may be the perfect beverage to become the staple to your favorite mixed concoction. Europe has their own versions as well, but they are rarely found on the North American market.

Orangina is made from a unique recipe which includes

  • Not less than 12% of citrus juice
  • A balance of orange, lemon, grapefruit and mandarin
  • 2 % pulp
  • Light bubbles
  • Natural colors

There are those who claim that they have a recipe that can parallel Orangina. Although it may be a way to cut costs, it does not taste the same as the originally packaged burst of citrus. Making it involves some pretty involved processes, and it just may not be worth the hassle or the penny savings.
