How to Make a Gimlet with Lime Juice
If you love the taste of lime, then a gimlet would be a perfect cocktail for you to try. A special cocktail made with gin and lime juice, a gimlet is a simple cocktail for anyone to make at home. Some people like to add some soda water to the cocktail to give it a little sparkle, but a seasoned bartender will tell you that nothing should be added to this classic cocktail, except maybe a lime to garnish the glass.
There are many different types of gin and lime juice to choose from when buying the ingredients for your gimlet. The choice of which you use is completely up to your own personal tastes. The different types of gin will have varying tastes to them, and also different prices. You should chose a gin that you are familiar with, or know how much you like it, and also that fits what you are willing to spend.
It is very simple to make a gimlet if you use lime juice that you can buy at the grocery store. Making your own fresh lime juice can become very time consuming and messy. If you want your cocktail to be a little sweeter, look for a lime juice that comes pre-sweetened at the store, or add in simple syrup to the cocktail. If not, stick with an unsweetened version or add in a squeeze of fresh lime juice to lessen the sweetness.
If you do not like the taste of gin, but love lime juice, then you can substitute vodka for the gin, making a vodka gimlet instead. A vodka gimlet is made in exactly the same way as a gimlet with gin, except you are using a different spirit. If you prefer, find a flavored vodka that will complement the lime juice such as a cranberry or raspberry vodka. To make your gimlet, use your alcohol of choice and mix one and a half ounces of it with one ounce of lime juice in a glass filled with ice. Stir the two ingredients together well and enjoy!
