Rum Cream Liqueur - Drink Secrets

Rum Cream Liqueur

How to make your own Rum Cream Liqueur

Rum Cream liqueur is a popular type of rum that is native to Jamaica. It is a creamy and smooth type of rum that is generally enjoyed as a dessert drink. Considered to be a spinoff of the Irish Cream, which first introduced the combination of liquor and cream, rum cream is a delicious way to add a special flavor to cocktail recipes and also dessert recipes, such as rum cake and ice cream.

The first rum cream liqueur introduced to the market was Sangster’s Rum Cream in 1983. It is made with a base spirit of rum and then the cream is added. It has become the most popular rum cream that you can find in the Caribbean and it is also available worldwide. It has also won many awards in the past, and continues to win them today. Today you can find many different brands of rum creams in your local liquor stores.

Many people like to enjoy rum cream liqueur over ice or mixed into coffee and hot chocolate. The flavor of rum cream does not have an overpowering alcohol flavor so it is great to add into desserts and baked items, especially if you do not want to offend those who do not drink. If you cannot find rum cream liqueur in stores, you can easily make it at home in your own kitchen.

To make Rum Cream Liqueur you will need one fourteen ounce can of sweetened condensed milk, one cup of heavy cream, one and a half cups of spiced rum, one ounce of dark caramel syrup, two ounces of gourmet chocolate, four teaspoons of instant coffee, one teaspoon of vanilla extract, and one teaspoon of Goldschlager liqueur.

In a saucepan, bring the heavy cream to a simmer, then add the chocolate and stir until it has melted completely. Remove from the heat and add the sweetened condensed milk, instant coffee, vanilla, and caramel. Stir the mixture until all the ingredients are combined well. Add in the rum and Goldschlager and stir. Then, using a hand blender, blend the mixture for two minutes in order to emulsify the mixture. You can then chill the mixture and serve or serve it at room temperature over ice.  You can also store it in a bottle in the fridge to enjoy for yourself.
