How to Make the Perfect Red Wine Sangria
Sangria is a popular red wine based punch that many people enjoy serving, and drinking, at summer parties. Sangria originates from Spain, where red wine is very popular. Sangria combines red wine with different flavors of liquor, fruits, and some other ingredients. It is very easy to make and hard to make incorrectly. It has a slight sparkling taste to it, which is what makes it the perfect drink for summer.
To make sangria you can use your favorite types of red wine. In Spain, they make their sangria with wines that the bottles have been opened but not finished from the night before. You may find that the red wines that are lower priced make the best wines for sangria.
If you do not like sweet drinks, try adding a little less sugar to your sangria punch than the recipe calls for. You can also customize your sangria to include different types of fruits and different flavors of red wines that you find compliment the flavors of the fruits. How you create the punch is completely up to your tastes and preferences. Some sangria recipes have strawberries and pineapple included in them, but you can stick to using just citrus fruits if you do not like the others. That is the best part about sangria, it will always taste great now matter what you add or do not add to it.
For a delicious sangria punch try using this recipe. You will need one bottle of your choice of red wine, one lemon, one large orange and, one lime – all cut into wedges, two tablespoons of sugar, a small amount of orange juice, 2 ounces of triple sec, one cup of fresh raspberries, one cup of fresh strawberries, one small eight ounce can of pineapple wedges (or fresh pineapple) with juice, and four cups of ginger ale.
In a large pitcher, pour the bottle of wine and then squeeze the juice from the citrus wedges into the wine. Take out the seeds from the citrus fruit and add the wedges to the wine. Add in the pineapple, sugar, orange juice, and triple sec. Put the pitcher into the fridge and let it sit overnight. Add the ginger ale and berries right before you serve the punch. You can add ice or serve it just chilled from the refrigerator. You do not need to let it sit overnight, but doing this will allow all of the flavors to really come together for a delicious red wine sangria punch.
