Peach Syrup - Drink Secrets

Peach Syrup

How to Make Your Own Peach Syrup

If you have peaches that are too soft to can, then a great way to make sure that they do not go to waste is by making peach syrup with them. You can use peach syrup in many different baking recipes, on top of desserts and waffles, in cocktails, and to give away as gifts.

Making peach syrup in your own kitchen is very easy as long as you have the right ingredients and tools. To make peach syrup you will need canning jars with lids, five cups of pureed peaches, two cups of sugar, two tablespoons of lemon juice, and two teaspoons of vanilla.

In a large saucepan over medium heat, mix the peach puree, sugar, and lemon juice together. Bring the mixture to a boil and then reduce to a simmer. Stir the mixture frequently for five minutes. Remove pan from the heat and add in the vanilla. Then pour the mixture into the sterilized canning jars, leaving some space at the top. Clean off all the rims of the jars and center the lids onto the tops. Add the bands and tighten them, but do not make them too tight as air will still need to escape. Process the jars in boiling water for about twenty minutes. Remove them from the boiling water and allow them to cool without being disturbed for about twenty-four hours. Check the lids before you store them or give them away to make sure they do not flex.

You can use your peach syrup to make a non-alcoholic version of a Fuzzy Navel cocktail. You simply need to add the peach syrup to orange juice over ice. If you want to make it an alcoholic version simply add in coconut rum with the orange juice and peach syrup. If you give the jars of peach syrup away as gifts, attach a card to the jar with ribbon with a recipe for a Fuzzy Navel cocktail, or even a recipe for peach upside-down cake or peach pancakes.
