How to Make a Midori Sour Using Melon Liqueur

Also known as Midori, melon liqueur is made using honeydew melons. Mostly used as an addition in fruity cocktails, it is made in Japan by the company Suntory, who also makes many other spirits and beverages. In the Japanese language, Midori means green and is accurately used with the spirit because of its very emerald green color, which is similar to that of absinthe.

 

Available in only one size of its signature bottle, Midori is a 40-proof alcohol that is perfect for making drinks that are layered. It has the same consistency of an Irish cream or cherry brandy.  The bottle that you will find it in is unique and is made with a textured glass that shows off the green color of the spirit. The bottle is an almost rectangle shape that tapers at the top and bears a simple label with the logo.

 

The taste of melon in the liqueur is not overwhelming, which is a draw for many people who like to drink melon liqueur. It is not necessarily a liqueur that you would want to drink on its own or over ice, but the flavors of honeydew melon will stand out more as you drink it. 

 

The flavors of the liqueur are sweet and are best mixed with soda or something that is similar. You may find that a margarita or a martini that is made with the Midori liqueur has a sweet twist on their classic flavors. The top cocktails made with melon liqueur, or Midori, are the Midori Illusion and the Midori Sour. A Midori sour mixes the sweet taste of the melon liqueur with a sour taste to make a delicious cocktail.

 

To make a Midori Sour you need one ounce of Midori, two ounces of sweet and sour mix, and one ounce of lemon juice. Pour all the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice, shake well, and then strain into a goblet glass. Usually this cocktail is garnished with and orange or cherry. Drink and enjoy!
