Macvin du Jura - Drink Secrets

Macvin du Jura

Wine highlight: Macvin du Jura

Macvin du Jura is a type of wine originated in France but is not anything like the wines we are used to seeing and tasting in other parts of the world. This wine really resembled juice more than anything and the concoction has been around for years. While the true origin of the wine is sketchy, most wine experts claim the mixture was created by Chateau Chalon nuns millennia ago. Even though this wine has been produced for centuries, it did not receive its AOC unless 1991! It earned it none the less and is one of the newest additions to the vin de liqueur class.

The Macvin du Jura that is produced today is aged for at least one year in oak barrels before it is released to be bottled and sold to the public. There are several key grapes made in the Jura region and most all of them are used in the mixture for this wine. These include Pinot Noir, Savagnin, Chardonnay, Trousseau, and Poulsard. The term Macvin is actually only typically used in the France regions and regions where the wine is heavily produced. It really is a wine that stays close to its origins and was not really known about in other parts of the world like the United States until recently.

If you have tried the Macvin du Jura wines but would like to try there are a variety of different flavors and brands you can choose from. A good one to try out is the Domain Rolet AOC. You can get a standard bottle for about $30 and you will soon agree that this wine really is more a juice treat than a wine. With the low price there is no reason not to try out this French wine.
