Hennessy - Jas Hennessy & Co

 

An Irish-French winery and co-leader of a company known as Moët Hennessy • Louis Vuitton S.A., often abbreviated to LVMH, a company that specializes in luxury goods, a type of goods that is defined to raise in demand as income rises. Today, Jas Hennessy & Co. specializes in the manufacturing and distribution of Cognac, a type of brandy made in the French region with the same name, Hennessy sells around 50 million bottles world wide each year and stands for around 40% of the worlds Cognac.

 

In 1765 the aristocrat known as Richard Hennessy established an eaux-de-vie trading business in a part of the French region Cognac that was handed to him by the king called King Louis XV as a reward for being a mercenary.

 

In 1794, the company began distributing Hennessy Cognac to the United States and in 1813 the company was trademarked as "Jas Hennessy & Co." and Hennessy cognac grew even more popular amongst the aristocracy.

 

It was not until 1971 that the company merged with the champagne producer known as Moët et Chandon that Hennessy broke the shipping record of 24 million bottles every year.

 

In 1987 the company merged again with the French fashion house known as Louis Vuitton and by that founding LVMH.

 

In 2009 Hennessy made a limited edition of cognac known as Hennessy VS, this bottle had a black label with gold lettering and the phrase “In honor of the 44th President” written upon it aswell as the date of Barack Obamas inauguration.

 

It should also be known that the North Korean leader Kim Jong-il is known to enjoy his Hennessy and has been their number one customer for the last ten years. To market Hennessy cognac in an ever-changing world can be tough which is the reason for them inventing and marketing new products such as “Pure White”, “Hennessy Black” and “Fine de Cognac”.
