Havana Club Rum - Drink Secrets

Havana Club Rum

Havana Club Rum

The Havana Club Rum is very popular rum used in such drinks as Daiquiris and Mojitos. Havana Club Rum has four different brands of rum, each with its own characteristics of color and flavor.

Originated in Cuba, it’s one of the most popular of the exports for that country.  There was a time when Havana Club Rum was banded from shipping to the US but the tariffs have lifted and shipping has returned to normal.

The different rums are Havana Club 3 Años, Añejo Blanco, Añejo 7 Años, and Añejo Especial. Each rum has a different appearance and flavor making each very unique.

Havana Club 3 Años is rated the most impressive of all brands of white rums across the board. The number 3 refers to the years the rum is allowed to age in white oak barrels before being bottled. This rum is light in flavor and is considered a light straw color.

The Havana Club Añejo Blanco isn’t aged as long but like the other brands of the rum is still processed in the white oak barrels as well. With a yellow tint to its color, has the aroma of a hint of vanilla, cherry and cocoa. The taste leans towards a fruity and sweet flavor.

Havana Club Añejo 7 Años stands for the essence of Cuban rums. Añejo 7 Años has aged the longest of all the Havana Club rums. It is known for the complex flavors because of the 7 year process.  Añejo 7 Años is rich in boldness and received the Gold Medal for two years by the International Review of Spirits and the Beverage Testing Institute.

Havana Club Añejo Especial Rum is a rich blend of aged rums for at least 5 years. By combining the white rum with the boldness of the dark rums and the taste of sugarcane with slightly smoky accents, hints of honey, with vanilla and cinnamon. As with many types of rum, can be the base for cocktails but mostly served on the rocks.
