How to Make a Pina Colada with Coconut Syrup

A popular drink, especially in the summer, that uses coconut syrup in its recipe is the Pina Colada. If you love this tropical, sweet drink, you can easily make them for your next party right in your own kitchen. For the perfect Pina Coladas, forget the pre-made mix, make this yummy drink from scratch and you will be certain to impress your friends.


The secret ingredient to a prefect Pina Colada made from scratch is coconut syrup. You can normally find it in a bottle or can at the grocery store or liquor store. If you cannot find anything called coconut syrup, then try looking for liquids labeled as coconut harts, or coconut juice. IF you are looking in the liquor store, you can probably find it right next to the pina colada mixes that are already premade, but do not let them deter you from making your from scratch.


To mix your drinks you will need a metal cocktail shaker, or two cups that you can put together so no liquid will spill out, rum, pineapple juice, and the coconut syrup. Fill a glass with ice, add one and a half ounce of rum, and then fill the glass the rest of the way with an equal amount of pineapple juice and coconut syrup. Cover with the cocktail shaker or second glass, shake well, and then garnish with fruit such as pineapple or a cherry.


If you do not use all of the coconut syrup that you bought at once, leave it out of the fridge as it will coagulate and be ruined if it becomes cold. The next time you want to use it you simply need to shake it up to get it into a good liquid mix again.


Depending on how you like your pina coladas to taste, you can use less or more rum than the recipe calls for. You can also try using coconut flavored rum to give it a little extra coconut flavor. Also try blending your pina colada with some ice and a little extra coconut syrup to make a delicious frozen version of the cocktail.
